Achamore Gardens
George Taylor Garden
The lower slope of the George Taylor Garden has two of the
beautiful small Enkianthus trees. These have lovely clusters of
flowers in May and excellent autumn colours. Further on right hand
side, is a huge Nothofagus dombeyii, a South American Southern Beech.
On the slope below is an unusual Chilean foliage plant - Lomatia
ferruginea. Still going south the pink form of Rhododendron crassum
towers over the path and behind it the rusty underside of Rhododendron
preptum can be seen. Beneath the pine is Atherosprerma moschatum,
a fragrant evergreen from Australia and below it on the slope Eucryphia
x Nymansensis, which provides masses of white blossom in August
and September. Up the steps and along the path almost to the road,
there is a large group of Rhododendrons including megacalyx, dalhousiae
and polyandrum - one of the best scented Rhododendrons in the garden.
