Green Drive

Green Drive and The Pump House

This is a straight path that leads from the main road at the Spoot Gate (Is a 'spoot' an Orcadian word for razorfish?) and leads up to the Pump House. The drive flanks the Ha-Ha! Wall/ditch on one side, and the semi-buried clay septic tank pipe on the other.

Many rhododendron have been planted along this route, but we need to embark on a rolling replacement as many of these plants are passing their best. For example, Rhododendron 'Albatross' blew over in some strong winds November 2010. The root system had all but failed, despite the crown looking fairly good.

The Pump House is the derelict-looking building which houses an electric pump. This pumps water from its holding tank to another holding tank upon the Spring Bank. This feeds water to Achamore House and the toilets.
