Welcome to the website for the community-owned Isle of Gigha, the most southerly and one of the most beautiful of the Hebridean Islands. Seven miles long by a mile and a half wide, Gigha is situated three miles west of the Kintyre peninsular, approximately three hours drive from the City of Glasgow.  Gigha is breathtaking - sandy beaches, clear green seas, a host of wildlife. There are also Achamore Gardens to explore. This website can only be an introduction to Gigha - you have to visit to appreciate its beauty and tranquillity.

With a beautiful hotel, self-catering cottages and many B&B options to choose from, Gigha offers the perfect getaway from it all break.  Since the community buyout in 2002 the island has gone from strength to strength with a growing population that is sustainably developing its local economy.

Wind turbines that generate income for the local economy, a housing refurbishment programme that is providing high quality accomodation for residents, increasing local business activity and a forward looking Trust with directors elected from the island leading the way - Gigha really is moving forward.

10 th Anniversary Celebrations

Next year we celebrate 10 years since the community took over the island.

We intend to have a big celebration on 15 th March which will be a Thursday. We have begun the planning for this. There will, no doubt, be speeches, raising of the flag, buffet lunch etc and finishing the day with a ceilidh but we are looking for ideas for the main attraction to focus on. In the past we have planted trees but we are looking for something different this time. Any one out there got any ideas?

Over the winter we will be having various events to raise funds for the celebration.

We would like to produce a 10 year celebration china mug and also a t-shirt to sell. But we need a design. So all you budding designers out there get pen to paper and send us your efforts. We'll make a competition of it and the best design will be used.

Watch all notice boards for further details and closing dates for competitions. Youngest to oldest can all play a part.
